I Need Your Help

For my bar passage present, Momma's going to allow me to buy a new laptop. I've been complaining over this one for months on end now, and I can see that it's nearing the end of its functional life.

So I need recommendations, or horror stories. I need it to be strong enough to handle basics. I need it to not crash when I try to run PhotoShop. I need to be able to actually watch videos or movies without making me nauseous or freezing up. I also need to be able to migrate the current content onto the new machine with as little difficulty as possible. I currently use a Dell Inspiron 1150 that's been dropped so many times, it jiggles.

I'd also like it to be cute. So please, send me ideas!

I would get one and have the cover engraved with the words "Yes, I passed the bar, bitches!"

But seriously, I love my Dell. It's probably got more cat hair in it than my cats currently have on them. I've spilled small amounts without problem. Dropped it (and it also dropped when I fell flat on my back on ice and snow...no, I don't miss the snow).

As you are the girl from whom I usually ask computer advice, my only advice is practical advice: make sure it has all of the most recent software; if you don't plan on carrying it a lot, weight shouldn't be a consideration; but above all, never EVER buy a Gateway. It'll be a $2k paperweight in less than a month.

My Sony VAIO was a total POS but it was super light and treated me ok for about 6mos at a time before it would blow up. But, maybe I just had a lemon..... on the other hand, I really really really love my Macbook altho it's heavier than I'd like (my Sony was maybe 3lbs!)

My daughters both have MacBooks and they love them. They are a bit pricey but they love them and they were the easiest things to get going than I've ever seen. They both put Office for Mac on there. I'm a diehard WordPerfect user and there isn't a current Mac version. Too bad.

In the PC realm I'd probably get a Dell with at least 3-4 meg of RAM. They have multiple colors. Get a good warranty and you should be great.
