Just a bit ago, I was checking my email. I then checked the headlines on Yahoo News, and saw an article about NBC choosing not to air an ad from a conservative group. Of course I had to check it out.
All this paragraph comes from the story. Apparently a group called "Freedom's Watch" wanted to have NBC air a commercial in support of the troups. I read the article, then clicked on the group's website. According to the article, the group wants everyone to say a "Thank You" to those Americans who are in the military.
Now, this response comes from what little I know. I have not seen the ad. But, as a liberal, I wonder when supporting the troops became a conservative issue. Is our country that divided?
I don't support the war. But for Pete's sake, why not support our troups?
I'd like information about care packages for our soldiers. They are ours, every one of them, who risk their lives each day. So, my hope is this. Get past your damn politics and think about the people, the individuals, involved in these wars.
So, if you can give me REAL information about the help and support I can send, please tell me. Because the individuals matter more than the groupthink.

The networks seem to have an issue with ads that advocate some sort of a position. It is rather odd. They will run commercials from politicians essentially calling each other turds, but won't run these ads.
The United Church of Christ ran into this two years ago. They wouldn't run the ads because it appeared that we welcomed gay people and seemed to imply that others didn't.
Well, we do and they often don't. Duh.
Those ads are here:

The first one, the bouncer ad, was the one that caused the fuss. Like these ads it's hard to imagine.
I often think I'm as liberal as it gets with regards to many issues. But many of the men and women who are dying were duped into believing that their lives were being given to protect us from a valid threat. They were lied to along with the rest of us.
But either way, they weren't the ones who got us into this situation. They don't deserve to die, to be left without adequate protection, or to be an afterthought on a slow news day.
I proudly support our troops, consider myself a patriot, and dissent against the current administration on countless issues.
All this being said, I used to support "Adopt-a-Platoon," an organization of individuals who screen people (for safety) and then give you the name and mailing address of deployed soldiers. It is for sending penpal type letters and care packages. Because it's very grassroots and consists of people who have full time jobs, families, and are otherwise occupied, they sometimes take a bit of time before they get back to you. But after the screening, they do send the names and addresses.
Good for you, fellow American!
